One of our clients – American Express Publishing – the owner of many high-traffic web properties including Food & Wine, is looking for a Ruby on Rails developer, or two or three. Here are all the details you need to get an awesome job with these folks.

Ruby on Rails Developer for American Express Publishing

American Express Publishing is a great place to work.  We are involved with emerging technologies for service oriented architecture, print-to-web, cutting edge online advertising, and world famous content.  Our office is located just outside of Times Square in the heart of mid-town Manhattan.  We have easy access to the subway, PATH, Grand Central Station, Port Authority, the Ferry, and Penn Station.  You will get to work with a great team that is building the platform for the relaunch of our websites.

Candidate will work with an Agile team and develop the company’s proprietary content management system and flagship websites: FoodAndWine.com, TravelAndLeisure.com, and Departures.com. Working in a fast paced environment, the Ruby on Rails developer will work closely with other developers, a database administrator, product managers, and editors from the magazines. The developer will get to work with New Relic, TDD, BDD, Active Record, SQL Server, and more. Responsibilities include but are not limited to core RoR development, defining requirements, estimations, and reviewing code.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation of test driven coding and unit tests
  • Coding
  • Code reviews
  • Defining requirements
  • Documentation on the code, database, and process
  • Communication (including SCRUMs, conference calls, emails, timelines, etc.)

Requirements include experience with:

  • Agile / SCRUM Methodology
  • Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Apache, Capistrano

Plusses include experience with:

  • Online publishing
  • Content management systems
  • Experience with BDD, TDD, RSpec, Cucumber

Other:

  • Candidates local to NYC or the Tri-state area preferred
  • Developers need experience with public facing websites (not just intranets), preferably with high traffic
