My Biznass Wish List for 2010

by Robert Dempsey on December 5, 2009

Goal

Chris Brogan wrote his business wish list for 2010, which inspired me to write mine. There’s a lot of ground I want to cover, and writing down the goals will help me keep focus on what’s important. At Atlantic Dominion Solutions, we have an iron triangle of offerings: Ruby on Rails and iPhone Development; Agile Training and Consulting; Online applications: Scrum’d and Prioritiz’d

While this goal list may change as opportunities arise, here’s what I want to accomplish in 2010. Strap on your seatbelts my friends.

My Biznass Plans For 2010

  • For the Rails side of the house, I want to continue working with awesome companies, developing world-changing applications, and using Ruby on Rails to make it happen. My intention is to double our development business, and work with more contractors here in the U.S. and abroad.
  • I want to ramp up iPhone application development, helping our current and new clients increase their reach by integrating mobile into their 2010 strategies.
  • Agile is where I’m focusing a great amount of my attention, and we have a lot going on here.
    • I’m planning a series of Agile classes in different parts of the United States, and potentially internationally. These classes will take on a very different format than a “traditional” class where people talk at you. Please help me determine where to go by filling out our Agile training survey. You can win a $50 Amazon gift certificate by doing so
    • I’m looking for more companies to work with on long-term Agile consulting projects, helping them to fulfill business goals through Agile principles and development practices
    • I’m developing an eLearning series on Agile for a soon-to-be launched eLearning platform.
    • I’m creating and will create more webinars, eBooks, and other materials on Agile for Managers and Agile for Freelancers
  • Scrum’d will become a collaboration platform for projects. Project management apps out there suck hard, and collaboration is the name of the game. I’m throwing all of my experience working with globally distributed and co-located teams into Scrum’d, and we’ll be integrating with revolutionary companies who are fighting against all the sucky software out there and being truly, honestly different.
  • Prioritiz’d is going to get an update. Using lists to manage tasks is so 2009 and we all need something new. We’re working on providing that.
  • For my blog, I want to continue to talk about rebuilding the trust between business and IT (in which I include development) using Agile principles
  • I will continue to learn as much as I can by talking with as many people as I possibly can via Skype, phone, in-person, Twitter, IM, or email.

My Biznass Wish List For 2010

  • I would like to speak at more conferences about Agile and it’s impact on business.
  • I want to continue to help companies integrate Agile principles into their businesses, and help rebuild the trust that has been lost between IT and business.
  • I want to help my fellow entrepreneurs learn more about low cost marketing, and learn from the lessons of successful entrepreneurs.

And a Little Bit of the Personal

With all this business stuff going on, I cannot ever forget that my first responsibility is as a father and husband. My goal in 2010 is to do everything in my power to not let business detract from spending important time with my family, providing every opportunity possible to my daughter, and helping my wife to achieve her personal goals.
