Do Project Managers Hate People?

Do project managers hate the people they manage? Dilbert sure seems to think so.

My faith in people has sometimes wained, though lately I’ve really been getting it back talking with more and more entrepreneurs. I have faith that most project managers, are not like that depicted in the Dilbert cartoon above. However I am meeting more people so we’ll see. The jury is out.

I’m lucky in that I haven’t had managers in my previous jobs like this, or what we see in the movie Office Space, or the show The Office. From stories I’ve heard though they are out there. These cartoons, movies, and tv shows weren’t completely made up. The stories are based off something. Something that is very sad.

The role of the project manager is changing from manager to leader.

If you’re not helping your people succeed every day, helping them when they fall down, and lauding them when they succeed, then you aren’t a leader in my book. Be a leader, not a manager.
