Personal and company branding aside, I’m the same person – me – whether in a business or personal setting.

Hey everyone. I’m Robert Dempsey, CEO and founder of Atlantic Dominion Solutions.
And I am here enjoying a nice cup of coffee. And I wanted to follow up my video post of yesterday where I talked about trust being at the core, with just some quick discussion about why I live in the open and what that means for me.
So I was listening to a segment on NPR yesterday talking about privacy being dead due to the plethora of social networks and how fast things can go from happening in real life up to Facebook or YouTube or Flickr or what have you, and then be seen by many, many people.
And Nick Pettit and I talk about this a lot in Rock the Job and I do believe, I don’t believe that privacy is dead completely, but we do have to be aware of what we’re doing.
Now, having said that, I read a lot about personal branding and branding a company and whatnot, and you know, I decided a long time ago that I was going to have ADS as a brand and brand it rather than brand me. But then I realized later that really I’m the face of my company. And the reasons that I started ADS and the ideals that we operate under are the ideals that I operate under, the philosophies – collaborate, enable, succeed – being our mantra.
And so, the main Twitter account for the company is my Twitter account. And I do a lot of the blogging. Justin adds his flavor to the blog on the technical side of things. But, you know, for me there really is no separation between how I am business-wise and how I am in real life.
I mean, I had a meeting yesterday with a potential client, a hopefully soon client, and I was in shorts. I wear shorts and a t-shirt or Polo all the time, much as you see me here on the this video today. And when I go out and network I wear pretty much the exact same thing. Or if it’s kind of fancy, I’ll wear jeans and a nice collared t-shirt. But either way, no difference.
And the thing is that I’m first and foremost trying to be consistent and, you know, what you see is what you get. So when you see me in real life, when you see me in business life, really no separation between those two. But you know what to expect all across the board.
So, I’d love to hear comments and what you think about this. Let me know here or, even more fun, post a video response. I look forward to speaking with you again soon.
