This Saturday at BarCampOrlando (which rocked by the way), I got a new consulting client, which you may have seen my tweets about. What’s crazy is how the client found me online, and then came to talk with me at BarCampOrlando. Here’s the path.
- The client determines that he is going to use Ruby on Rails for his new project. A very smart choice for sure.
- He then determines to build a local team of Rails developers, and needs to find a project manager who understands Agile.
- Client beings a search online for Ruby on Rails developers in Orlando (not the exact search term), and via research into local developers gets to the Rails Envy site.
- The client sees that the Rails Envy site is designed by Erika Greco, visits her blog (now her old site, check out the new one) by clicking on the link, and then views her portfolio.
- In Erika’s portfolio is the (old) Atlantic Dominion Solutions website, that he then visits.
- Curiosity peaked, he then looks on the team page, and sees a picture of Robert Dempsey (me), CEO and Founder. On my profile, is a link to Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, all of which he visits.
- Now that he knows who I am, he checks out my Twitter feed, and sees that I am tweeting about my Transparency in Agile talk.
- Lastly, he decided to meet me at BarCampOrlando, which he tells me by filling out the contact form on our site.
So, in short, here’s the path, without the details:
Rails Envy site -> Erika Greco Portfolio -> Atlantic Dominion Solution website -> My Twitter Feed -> Meets me in person at BarCampOrlando
So in my book, that’s a big +1 for social media!
