Hey, thanks for your nice tutorial! You wrote about I18n and I asked myself: Do you use a plugin like Globalize for it? At the moment I'm using dojo with Rails, is Mootools small in size, I never got dojo below 28kb.... Greets, Daniel

I got this working thanks to your help! I admit, I shamelessly downloaded the mootools.js from your site. When I download it from mootools directly, no dice. Thanks a lot!

Navjeet,

While there are mootools that I hear will work with Prototype (check out the post from Daniel above), I was unable to get the download from the Mootools site and Prototype working together. If your experience is different let us know. Thanks.

Robert,
When you did this test did you include Rails javascript files (prototype etc.). I am trying to use mootools to create Fx.Slide but if the I have javascript_include_tag :defaults in the head section, it does not work (canot instantiate Fx.Slide object) but once I take it out it works but then I loose all Rails javascript helpers.

Daniel,

Thanks for the clarification. I grabbed everything in the mootools download. I will definitely check out the moofx script and get things going. Thank you again.

Hey,

you definetly need more than the accordion package to let things flow smoothly. Check Element and Window.DomReady. Dependencies should be resolved automatically

Effects should be the same. moofx also brings accordion with it by default. There's even a description how to use it with prototype:

Daniel,

The download of MooTools that I got from http://mootools.net/download included the effects. I also selected the accordion plugin for the menu.

I tried your code with my copy of MooTools that I downloaded from mootools.net and it didn't seem to like it. Perhaps I am doing something incorrectly? I will grab a copy of moo.fx from the site you posted and try with that. Do you know if the effects included with the download from mootools.net are the same as the effects from moofx.madmilk.net?

Thank you for the clarification and pointing me in the right direction. I'll definitely take a look at the libraries you linked to - can't beat 3KB!

If you really wanted to use MooTools for its killer effects, why didnt you take moo.fx (moofx.mad4milk.net/#download)?

  window.onload = function() {
    var titles = document.getElementsByClassName('box_title');
    var expanders = document.getElementsByClassName('expand');
    // Create the accordion
    var myEffect = new Fx.Accordion(titles, expanders, {show: 0});
  }

Why do you do that, when using moo?

accordion = {
  init : function() {
    var titles = $$('box_title');
    var expanders = $$('expand');
    var boo = new Fx.Accordion(titles, expanders, { show : 0});
  }
};

window.addevent('domready', accordion.init());

(I guess wordpress is killing the indention)

You might want to have a look at the mootools api.

oh and take a look at ujs4rails

On one of the projects I'm working on we decided to use Mootools with our Rails app, and our main issue we had with using Mootools was all of the stuff you get for free with Prototype. We wrote a MootoolsHelper that acted similarly to PrototypeHelper, so that you could use methods like link_to_remote and other Ajax methods, and it was mainly just a matter of changing syntax. However, in the end we weren't able to get the last 10% working correctly and eventually moved back to Prototype.
